Self-reflected account of simulated work experience and professional animation practise

In this collaboration with the year 2 student, I worked closely with a senior student.
This was my first time participating in a well-structured and complete project. I was initially very apprehensive, worried that my questions might affect the quality and progress of the senior student’s graduation project. However, the senior student actively kept in touch with me and patiently explained her project content.
The senior student had already completed most of the preliminary conceptualization. The story consisted of three parts, with three adorable characters engaging in activities in their respective scenes, creating a light-hearted and humorous picture.
The senior student’s creative style is actually very different from mine. She values emotions more and her creative style is more abstract. The work I usually do is more concrete and emphasizes story logic. But from her work, I saw pure emotion, which is very infectious. This is something I don’t possess, so I have been learning from her continuously during the collaboration process.
The senior student hoped that I would choose either storyboard or color experimentation as the focus of my collaboration with her. Worried that my storyboarding skills might not be up to par and could potentially cause her extra work, I chose to take charge of the color experimentation for this collaboration.
Before starting work, the senior student sent me the complete storyboard and the initial draft of the animation, and specifically provided me with notes explaining her thoughts on color, while also giving me a high degree of freedom.

Based on references, I made three different color drafts and let the senior student choose. We ultimately decided to delve deeper into the first and third drafts.
As of the time I am writing this blog, I have not completed all the color experimentation attempts. Perhaps I will supplement them in the future.
